Dear Future AP Psych Students,
Taking AP Psychology was one of the best decision in my high school career. I have learned so much from that class that I am able to use it in everyday life. It also doesn’t hurt that Ms. Halfen is an amazing teacher. In order to be successful in AP Psych you should probably do the following. AP Psych is a course that contains an abundant amount of information. First take notes in class it makes it so much easier for you when studying for the test and you will learn a lot of interesting things you never even knew existed. It is important to take time and plan out a schedule in order to obtain enough information to pass test and ultimately the AP exam. There is a lot of vocabulary terms so it is in your best interest to do not procrastinate and try to do it all in one day (this was extremely difficult for me because I’m a hardcore procrastinator). You should always do the vocabulary because it can help you maintain a good grade even if you fail the test (but try not to fail the test). Besides the large amounts vocabulary AP Psych consists of fun projects and interesting videos which are my favorite activities within the course. Always do the projects because they’re most likely going to be easy and a chance to get a free A for a major grade. Videos are my favorite activity in AP Psych because you can count on them to talk about specific topics in Psychology and they’re never really boring. You will get questions that are connected with video but it’s not a challenge to complete them. One of my favorite videos was the movie Hidden Figures which we used when we studied social psych unit. Although AP Psych consists of many activities I enjoyed, it also consisted of activities I personally hated and wished never existed such as the Content Digs. Content digs were assignments where students looked for information found in an AP Psych book and use it to answer questions from the content dig. It is much easier to do it in groups than just doing it alone because it is time consuming but either way it was very annoying and a dread to do them. Lastly, you should take the AP. The test consists of just 100 multiple choice questions and 2 free response questions and you don’t even need to know every single piece of information to pass. I wish everyone who takes AP Psych to have the same experience I had because even though I was extremely stressed out over tests, vocabulary, and content digs I still enjoyed learning about how we as humans work.
